What’s your name and the business you run? And tell us a bit more about your part in it.
My business is called Willow Bud named after my daughter Willow. Our business specialises in wedding flowers and corporate events. We have a small, yet very experienced team, we all have our strengths and together we really love what we do and it shows in our work. My role in the business is to make sure that everything is running efficiently, I meet with brides, come up with beautiful designs, create content for social media, purchase flowers, creating floral designs and installing on the wedding day, and then there is the general running of the business like paying bills, invoicing, wages, website updates and copious amounts of emails!
How long have you been in business? Our business will be 8 in August.
Do you have a story about how it all started?
After studying fashion design with the hope to open my own bridal boutique, I made my own wedding dress and found the whole experience to be really quite lonely and extremely time-consuming. I had always had an interest in flowers and gardens growing up so when Willow was 1 I studied Floral Design and when she was 3 I launched Willow Bud.
What is your perfect day on the Sunshine Coast?
My perfect day on the Sunshine Coast would be to stay in a luxury hotel in Noosa for the weekend and go for an early morning meditation at the beach followed by a swim, then breakfast followed by reading a book sunbaking then another swim, then a day sleep, then lunch out with a cocktail in hand then a bit of shopping than some chill time at the resort then out for dinner all with Grant and Willow- have I ever done this on the Sunshine Coast, no but maybe it might happen!
Best place to eat on the Sunshine Coast?
There are soooo many places that I love but one of my favourites is a little crepe stand in Maleny, we like to go there on a Sunday morning after we have done pack downs from weddings.
Cocktails, cherry danish, tapas, hot chips.
Dream holiday destination?
I love France and Morocco, I have been to France twice now and Morocco once and when I retire I would love to house sit in France for months at a time. And Morocco is just so incredible, I could go back in a heartbeat. Another dream destination that has been on the bucket list for some time is the Philippines.
Best wedding day advice for couples?
You be authentic to you, don’t people please for your day. If your to-do list is long and overwhelming delegate, family and friends love to help. Also wear a dress you feel comfortable in and don’t let the rain spoil your day!
Do you have a client review you could share?
“I had the most wonderful experience with Sandi and the beautiful Willow Bud team who made my dream wedding flowers come to life! From the very beginning, Sandi and her amazing team were so lovely to deal with. I can’t thank Willow Bud enough for creating the most stunningly gorgeous wedding florals that were above and beyond all my expectations. Sandi is so extremely talented and so beautiful inside and out!”
Any advice you would like to share with couples with their wedding planning?
Trust your wedding vendors, they live and breathe weddings they know how to get the best value for money and know what will work best for your day. Also, book in vendors that makes your hearts sing when you see their work, don’t just go with the cheapest. And if you interact with a vendor that has given you free advice or spent time putting together a detailed and personalized quote and you go with someone else, a little thanks but no thanks email goes such a long way.
