What’s your name and the business you run? And tell us a bit more about your part in it?

I’m a freelance makeup artist and run my bridal business Tasleema Nigh Makeup Artist on the Sunshine Coast and surrounds. I also do lash extensions from my home studio for brides and locals throughout the week. I’m a one-man show and wear many hats, as we all do when running a small business. I like being busy and hands-on in my business so this suits me great!

How long have you been in business?

This is my 10th year doing bridal makeup on the Sunshine Coast however I’ve been in the makeup industry and doing weddings for over 20 years in Sydney and Toronto, Canada. I’ve always worked freelance and love it.

Do you have a story about how it all started?

I got into bridal makeup just as an addition to what I was already doing which was advertising, commercial and editorial makeup work. I first started doing weddings in Sydney then I moved to Canada and worked for 6 years there. I was always told my makeup was ‘very natural’ and my peers wanted me to do fashion looks and edgy stuff for my portfolio, which I did, but I never really enjoyed. These looks weren’t practical wear to me or to the average person so that’s why I always stuck to doing looks I loved which were looks that were natural, beautiful, enhancing makeup looks. So after 20 years I’ve tailored my work to suit me and have found my ideal clients that love natural looks – brides!

What is your perfect day on the Sunshine Coast?

A perfect day for me on the Sunshine Coast is when it’s not humid and stinky hot….September is one of my favorite months! I am always cursing come summer time as it’s just so hard to deal with, but the rest of the year does make up for it. Despite everyone else’s love of the beach, I don’t love it and rarely go, I have a healthy respect for it though. Let’s be honest, there are bitey things in the sea and we don’t stand a chance if they want to have a go! And sun cancer and skin damage is a real concern. My ideal day would be spending it at home with 2 jack Russell dogs and doing something relaxing around the house or going out to eat at one of my fave vegan cafes.

Best place to eat on the Sunshine Coast?

Oh, I love food…Cafe Vie in Buderim or Nurcha in Maroochydore are pretty consistent choices for me!

Favorite Treat?

Hmm, I’m more of a savory person so I’m going to say a bag of crisps, like salt and vinegar veggie chips! But I am really loving the dairy free Magnums and Drumstick icecreams lately. Genius inventions they are!

Dream holiday destination?

Somewhere tropical for sure…the Maldives have always looked amazing to me. See, I do like the beach, only if I’m on holiday and I can see the bottom of the ocean in crystal clear water!

Best wedding day advice for couples?

Pick your suppliers with care – really do your research, ask questions, read reviews, do some lurking. Find out what that service type is all about and what aspects of that service are important to you. For example, I’m all about one wedding a day whereas others are not – are you okay with being finished hair and makeup 4 hours before the wedding because you’re one of two that day? Does is really matter what brand of cosmetics a makeup artist uses, or is it better that their work is amazing, they are attentive, have great reviews and have a track record of delivering 110% on your day?

Do you have a client review you could share?

I’m super lucky and thankful I have over 200+ five star reviews across the internet, here is one:

“Tasleema was the perfect choice for my Wedding day. She is professional, friendly and easy to talk to, which made me feel completely at ease. She made everyone feel so confident with their look and my Mum still talks about how much she loved her make-up for my wedding. She made my dream look come true. I can’t recommend Tasleema enough!”

Anything else you would like to share with Brides & Grooms?

Remember that planning a wedding is all about creating your wedding day memories…the investments you make into each aspect of your wedding day are worth every penny. Once your day has come and gone and years have passed, you won’t remember the money you spent or saved here and there, you’ll just remember how amazing your day was!
