Meet Mr Bill Scurry! The gentle, kind, funny & wonderful Celebrant!

What’s your name and the business you run? And tell us a bit more about your part in it.

My name, Bill Scurry

I am a Registered Marriage Celebrant, authorised to officiate both Civil and Religious Marriages.

My work, along with organising and completing the legal and other documentation, is to give as much or as little input, into the ceremony, a couple chose to have. Aiming for a love statement or love testimony, towards the reason the couple want to spend the rest of their lives together.  Not just cold, legal and mechanical words, that mean very little to the couple.

How long have you been in business?

I started officiating weddings in 1980, which is forty years ago!

Do you have a story about how it all started?

It started as part of my work with underprivileged people, those that wanted to be married due to their ‘Faith’ or their Ethical belief (wanting to do the right thing, in their families and friends eyes etc).  But could not financially afford to find the money required to get married.

So I started offering to officiate these weddings as form of ministry gift, this led on, via wedding guests ‘word of mouth’ to where it grew upwards of two hundred weddings a year, becoming my Full Time income occupation and fulfilling my passion in helping and working with people.

Best wedding day advice for couples?

Keep mental notes locked away in a safe and leave them there. Trust in your professional suppliers and lose yourselves in the moment, without worrying about what will go right and what will go wrong. If you have no check list to follow, then you will have the perfect ceremony, as you and your guests will never know if anything did not go to ‘plan’!

Do you have a client review you could share?

Bill, thank you for being our celebrant on Saturday at Yandina Station.

We’d like to say a sincere and heartfelt thank you for helping us to create, and for being a part of, the best day of our lives.

Your guidance helped us create a ceremony that was unique and very special to the both of us.

Our ceremony was just what we wanted – beautiful, romantic, personal, relaxed and heart-felt, with lots of tears, joy and laughter. Andrew, myself and many of our families and friends commented afterwards that you did a fabulous job and how great you were making our wedding day extra special, it couldn’t have been more perfect!

Thank you for guiding us through the process and making it easy for us, even when we were getting emotional you just helped us with your bubbly personality and sense of humour, it brightened our day and helped us get through it with minimal nerves and tears, but just with more laughs and smiles!!! Words cannot express how grateful we are for you making our Wedding Day complete and perfect.

Many thanks

Andrew and Elizabeth Lloyd

P.S You’ve been amazing!!!!

Any advice you would like to share with couples on their wedding day?

Try to relax, take in and enjoy very moment of the journey and leave all the concerns, worry and organisation to others. It’s your day and everyone attending should make it their task to let it all be about you and your wedding day memories…
