Opening
- Thank guests for coming, and thank whoever hosted/paid for the day
- Acknowledge that brides don’t always speak, so a quick “I wanted to say a few words too” works as an opener
Thank Yous
- Thank both sets of parents — for raising you, for raising him, for their support
- Thank the wedding party (bridesmaids, best man) for their help
- Thank your now-husband’s family for welcoming you in
Reflecting on the Relationship
- How you met, or your first impression of him
- What drew you to him / what you saw in him early on
- A story that shows his character
What He Means to You
- The heart of the speech — how he’s changed your life, supported you, made you a better version of yourself
- Specific moments where he showed up for you (illness, hard times, big adventures)
Looking Forward
- What you’re excited about for your life together
- A promise or hope for the marriage
The Toast
- Turn to him directly for the final lines — this is the most personal, direct-address moment of the day
- Raise a glass, often to him, to both families, or to your future together
Here is a starting point to help you writing your Bride’s speech.
Thank you all so much for being here today. I know it’s not always expected for the bride to speak, but there was no way I was getting through today without saying a few words of my own.
Jake is my best friend. And I have been infatuated with him since the very moment I saw him. We had a slow, steady start — six months of just being friends before anything more began. And every single day since, I feel grateful that we chose each other.
I never knew love could be like this. Someone who brings out the best in me. Someone who has helped me grow. Someone who takes care of me, and considers me, in every decision, big or small.
We’ve traveled the world together, and I’ve loved every moment of it. But if I’m honest, my favourite place in the world isn’t some far-off destination — it’s home, with you cooking dinner, music playing, the two of us unpacking our day and making memories in the smallest, most ordinary moments. That’s where I feel luckiest.
I am beyond grateful that it’s you. That you’re the one I get to stand up here today and promise my life to. I can’t wait to see what our future looks like — all the places we’ll go, and all the quiet nights at home in between.
Jake, you are my absolute favourite person. You are the love of my life. You make me laugh, you respect me, and you listen to me — and I know how rare that combination truly is.
So Jake — thank you for choosing me, the way I choose you, every single day. I love you, and I can’t wait for this next chapter.
To my husband — I love you more than words can say. Everyone, please raise a glass to Jake — the love of my life, and my best friend.
Cheers!
OR THIS:
I can’t believe that our wedding day has finally arrived! First and foremost, I want to thank all of you for being here to celebrate with us. Your presence means the world to us.
I also want to take a moment to thank my parents and my in-laws for their love, support, and guidance throughout our lives. We wouldn’t be here today without your unwavering support.
To my husband, I want to say that I am so grateful for you. You are my best friend, my partner in crime, and my soulmate. I never imagined that I could love someone as much as I love you. You make me a better person and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you.
I also want to acknowledge that this day would not be complete without the memory of loved ones who are no longer with us. Although they couldn’t be here physically, we feel their love and presence here with us today.
Finally, I want to end by saying that I am so excited for what the future holds. Together, we will face life’s challenges and triumphs, and I know that we will come out stronger and more in love than ever before.
Thank you again for being here and for sharing in our special day. Cheers to love, laughter, and happily ever after!”
